Modules for employees with family
responsibilities
- OVERVIEW OF
ORGANIZING, COMMUNICATING, AND GETTING RID OF GUILT. A workshop
designed to give an overview of the basic skills and strategies to
manage work and personal life more effectively.
- ORGANIZING FOR LIFE
MANAGEMENT. An in-depth workshop on the topic of organizing more
effectively. Discussions include delegating, dealing with
priorities, and analyzing time spent on current work/life
activities. Examples of incentives to get family members involved
and worksheets for change are part of the workshop.
- COMMUNICATING TO
GET WHAT YOU NEED. An in-depth workshop on the topic of
communicating effectively to create a better balance in your life.
Discussions and activities include: active listening, dealing with
confrontations, talking with children, elders, spouses/significant
others, and supervisors. There are also activities on learning to
negotiate with supervisors for flexibility and getting cooperation
from family members. Participants will analyze their communication
skills.
- DEALING WITH GUILT.
An in-depth workshop on strategies for dealing effectively with
guilt. Participants will analyze their feelings of guilt regarding
children, spouses/significant others, and elders. They will develop
better ways of incorporating positive guilt into their lives.
- THE WHOLE LIFE
APPROACH TO MANAGING WORK AND FAMILY. A workshop designed to
help participants to handle career-life conflicts. These tried and
tested solutions include self-assessments and discussions on what
companies can do to assist workers. Participants will analyze their
issues, learn about sequencing, and leave with an action plan.
- PLANNING YOUR
PARENTAL LEAVE. A workshop designed to assist individuals to
handle their leave effectively. Discussions include: telling your
supervisor, planning your leave with peers, communicating while you
are gone, and re-entering. Choosing and finding child care is also
part of the workshop.
- CHOOSING QUALITY
CHILD CARE. This in-depth workshop discusses the preparation and
guidelines for choosing child care. Participants will learn about
their options, ways of determining what is the best caregiver for
them, determine the cost of care and understand the guidelines and
resources in the selection of a child care provider.
- TRAVELER'S AID FOR
WORKING PARENTS. This workshop is for workers who travel while
caring for family members. Participants will learn about how to
leave organized and secure, how to travel with confidence and
enjoyment, and how to re-enter and assimilate with family members.
- WORK AFTER WORK.
This workshop focuses on creative ways for getting chores/tasks done
while making time for self and other activities. Participants will
analyze how they currently handle chores/tasks and leave with a plan
for change.
- SURVIVING AND
THRIVING SINGLE PARENTHOOD AND WORK. This workshop provides
single parents with practical options to help them manage their
unending responsibilities at home and at work. Participants will
leave with concrete ideas: how to deal with unscheduled events; how
to get out of the house in the A.M.; how to get chores done; and how
to make time for themselves.
Modules for managers who supervise
employees with work-life conflicts
- FAMILY TIES AND
BOTTOM LINES. A workshop designed to assist supervisors who
manage employees with family responsibilities. Strategies for being
flexible and understanding will be explored. Participants will
complete activities to assist them to analyze their values and their
abilities to be flexible. Participants will also learn about
family-friendly policies in other companies and they will rate
themselves. They will participate in problem-solving case studies
and leave with a plan for change.
- MANAGING
ALTERNATIVE WORK OPTIONS. This workshop is designed to assist
supervisors/managers in implementing/managing flexible working
options. Participants will learn about the many options such as job
sharing, compressed work weeks, work-at-home, telecommuting,
flexiplace, and more. They will learn about the necessary steps for
pilot programs and how to communicate the changes to employees. The
training manual is an excellent resource for all managers and human
resource professionals.
